Gaborone, South East District, Botswana, 29.04.2019 – Cheetah Conservation Botswana (CCB) announced today that the CCB Community Outreach Team, including members Morulaganyi Kokole, Connie Modise and Phale Seele, has been honored with a Disney Conservation Hero Award. The award recognizes local citizens for their commitment to save wildlife, protect habitats and inspire their communities to take part in conservation efforts. Recipients from around the world were nominated by nonprofit environmental organizations, and each honoree and his or her nominating organization will share a $1,500 award from the Disney Conservation Fund (DCF).
The team was one of only 13 award recipients this year globally. On behalf of CCB and community outreach team, I am very thankful for this magnificent award and global recognition. It is a great inspiration that has given us the reason to believe in our work as demonstrated by the positive change that we bring into Botswana’s carnivore conservation through empowerment of our rural communities - Morulaganyi Kokole.
The Disney Conservation Fund focuses on supporting non-profit organizations and their work to engage communities in the protection of wildlife and critical ecosystems across the globe. Since 2004, Disney has honored more than 160 Conservation Heroes from around the world for their extraordinary conservation efforts. This year, with the inclusion of the Conservation Hero Awards, the DCF distributed $5 million in grants to support 76 organizations working to protect the magic of nature around the world.
